History of CHETANAA
CHETANAA is running after-school care programme for under-privileged children in Village Mirzapur. CHETANAA made a humble beginning in 1990 from a rented building in New Colony, Village Mirzapur, near Kurukshetra University Campus with only 20 children in the First and Second classes, and that too after a great effort on the part of the members to persuade the god forsaken illiterate parents, for days and months together. CHETANAA has been lucky to get public support in carrying out its activities ever since. Convinced by the work at the Centre many people felt motivated and have been donating generously year after year , in cash and kind. CHETANAA has now its own building named after its founder President Dr Sharda Kumari. SHARDA BHAWAN has 7 Classrooms with a Library , Meeting Hall , Computer Room and Play area besides other facilities. More than 250 students of Classes Nursery to XII receive formal as
well as non-formal education here.
Keeping pace with the changing times Internet facility is provided at the Centre. They can take online lessons and learn the use of Power Point, Excel, etc. Spread over 3600 sq. feet area the Centre provides all help to the CHETANAA children in the form of Books, School Uniform, Shoes, Sweaters , etc. CHETANAA has a team of dedicated Principal and Teachers.
CHETANAA depends on the donations from magnanimous donors for all its activities. It does not get any Government grant in any shape. No member of the Organisation draws any salary or perks from CHETANAA.
Objectives of CHETANAA
The main objective of CHETANAA is to provide all round development to the children who deserve a better future. We want them to become responsible and good citizens of India. Children enrolled with CHETANAA are trained in basic values and admitted to various Govt Schools. They come to the CHETANAA Centre after their day at the school. Teachers help them to revise their lessons and do homework. Here they learn human values , morality, national integration, sharing, team work, etc by participating in Group Activities, Debate Competitions, Sports, Independence Day Celebrations, Republic Day Celebrations and other National Festivals. Visits to important places and monuments add to their confidence and knowledge. No education is complete without exposure to the outside world. Hygiene and Health education receive utmost attention. The effort is to involve them in these activities as part and parcel of curriculum.
Results
Over the years CHETANAA children have shown very very encouraging results, not only in academics but in their personality development also. Recently our student Priyanka participated in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. Some of our students have completed their Post graduation, B.Tech, etc. and taken up jobs in Government and private organizations. Even after school education these children get necessary financial help, guidance, and moral
support for further studies.
